First project of the year. Exciting start of the BA! We delved deep into the number thirteen, which we then could approach conceptually. Allowing for any outcome surreal or not.
For my outcome, my aim was to develop the idea of dark themes linking to superstition and creating a sinister mood. The brief I set my self was essentially, imagining if Edgar Allan Poe was still alive and adapted his short story “The black cat” into a modern play for Broadway. What would that look like? Brief – Make a contemporary theatrical poster for Edgar's short story. Would it follow the trail of his darnation towards these sensible beings? Can we expect something provoking in a satirical like representation? I started assembling some rough ideas on paper until I made these block-like silhouettes for my title that had that raw cut edge but also felt like puzzle blocks which was a perfect accident as the reader needs to uncover a series of crimes behind the narrator's paranoia. For the cat I knew I would use one of my inked illustrations, I scanned and photoshopped him in to be the main protagonist of the poster piece.
