Train stations are another means of transportation. It is another point between hundreds of connections that helps us to have interchangeable lives wherever we go. It is where so many journeys begin and end. How can the space be re-used to be innovative, speculative or intended as something playful? Commuting is an integral part of our lives we don’t tend to think about the resting space between these links. How can we re-create them into something more convenient for us to re-charge and bring curiosity too.
There can be a sentimentality that comes with growing up. As we experience different measures of nostalgia, we start to think about the time you took your first step or branched out to experience new endeavours when you achieve that first found freedom. When you're finding your way in life there is that new sense of responsibility to get your life sorted and open a new chapter. Similarly, a station is just a checkpoint in a journey, which can be overwhelming cause of all the people commuting just like growing up can be a vulnerable state to be in. What if stations rewarded you in being adventurous as a young adult? And they encourage you to take that first new step in adulthood by inventing an app that benefits you, for visiting as many places as you can or involved some kind of prize money.
We intended on creating an app that is accessible and safe for any young adults to take their first leap into adulthood. We thought, why shouldn’t companies in the UK encourage travel and tourism in younger generations? There tends to be that idea around traveling that when you are old and have money saved; Is when you should take up traveling. This idea should be challenged. If we motivate young people to discover more about where they are living. They will start to find their place in this world and unleashing their curiosity will create an environment for learning and making mistakes along the way, which is a necessary part of growing up. Letting them be culturally immersed in their surroundings will also allow them to have a better understanding of their selves and allow space for creative thinking. We also thought the constellations were also a nice touch that correlated back to a station as the stars are links to different routes and similarly explore navigation.
This was a collective group project. Me and Elizaveta Ushanova did advertisement together, whereas Isabelle Hillary-Gosling, Grace Morris and Lily Price focused on the layout within the app.
